    Confederate Spanish moss saddle blanket remnant.Very few of these pieces have survived.Unearthed in Nashville,Tennessee.These blankets were used heavily by the Confederacy to save money for other war necessities.You can see the weave pattern.Roughly 5" X 6".Very cool relic. SOLD

    I love these oddities! Union arrow hook buckle recovered at Liberty Gap,Tennessee by Dwayne Davis in 1999. This is the 1862 style with the hooks riveted to the tounge portion.As you can see the hooks were slid too close togather when the lead was poured.This would have wallowed out a large single hole in the belt which would not hold very well.Probably why it was abanded.Retains 95% lead on reverse.Bold US with a greenish and chocolate patina.Cool relic!     Musket parts from blockade runner "Modern Greece".The "Modern Greece" was run aground by blockaders on Cape Fear by Wilmington,N.C. on 27 June,1862.The ship was carrying weapons,lead,cookware,uniforms and liquor from England.The muskets were most likely Enfields or possibly Whitworths.These pieces were recovered by Col. Howland Taft in the 1960's. SOLD

      Here's a pistol that you don't see too often.The Colt "pocket Navy".Called that because at first glance it looks like a pocket .31 caliber.This one is .36 caliber.First year of production model 1862.All matching serial numbers of 6,319 except the wedge which is still original Colt.Rebated cylinder.Action works fine in all positions.Dark tone to the metal overall.Minimal pitting.Cylinder stagecoach scene is no longer visible.Original one piece walnut grips are in fine shape."Address Col. Saml. Colt New York US America" on top of barrel can still be seen as well as the "Colt Patent" and "36 cal" on side of pistol.Colt that was used but not abused. $915.00 SOLD

    US box plate in dug condition. Wire loops on the reverse are long gone but full lead on back and a nice US on the face. Took a severe blow by something sharp on the rim at the four o'clock position. Some would tell you it's a sabre blow...maybe so, but it could have been farmer Brown's tractor disc as well. LT10.

    Full length maker marked carbine sling in nice shape. Leather is strong and complete but a little stiff and does have crazing as the pictures reveal. The swivel turns freely and is marked "O.B. North Co. New Haven Cn." The spring action works fine as well. The buckle and bat wing have a rich dark matching patina.These don't come around as often as they used to. Here's a really nice example priced right. SOLD

    Model 1840 cavalry sabre."Old Wristbreaker".Widely used by both sides during the war.The wizard of the saddle,Forrest,carried one of these.Unmarked example except for a small "16" stamped on the pomell cap and hand guard where the leather washer was.Original leather grip and wire wrap in good,tight shape.Goldish patina to the brass.Blade is in good shape with a salt and pepper appearance.Looks like the Kirschbaum knights head on the ricasso but I believe that's just wear.Sabre is a snug fit in the scabbard.Scabbard has a couple use dents and scratches with a couple small worn through tiny holes near the drag mentioned for exactness.Used but not abused model 1840 sabre in good condition.     Here's a cool item.Two civil war musket slings that were sewn together for use on the 1866 Allin rifle.Leather is soft and pliable and retains brass sling adjuster hook,sling loop and is marked "Watervilet Arsenal". Measures five feet four and a half inches. SOLD

    Here is the rarer Ohio made cartridge box plate with the brass loops.This one was intentionally bent into this position.The only person who knows why was the soldier who did it!!A little rough but the "US" is complete and still retains 90% of the lead on back.Retains one full brass wire loop that is seperated in the middle and half of the other one.This was recovered at Hoovers Gap,Tennessee SOLD

    I bought these two plates from two seperate dealers two years apart.They were both dug by Dr. Floyd McRae of Atlanta,Georgia back in 1970 the same day! Both plates are marked,in red, by the doctor on the reverse "Big Black River,Miss.Feb.21,1970".Nice to have two plates dug the same day 40 years ago by the same person.Both plates retain both wire loops although one loop on the boxplate is bent inward slightly.Both plates have 97% lead remaining.A couple small rim dings on the boxplate but a nice face.Both for SOLD

    Nice model 1849 .31 caliber pocket Colt revolver.Dark even tone to the metal throughout.All matching serial numbers of 80742 except the cylinder which is only 42 digits off at 80784!This gives it a mid 1851 production date.Walnut grips are in great shape.Action works well on all positions but is sometimes positional.slight pitting.Four inch barrel. Displays great! SOLD

    Model 1860 light cavalry saber made by "Roby".Full length salt and pepper blade.Clear marks of,"C.Roby Chelmsford Mass." and "US 1864 AGM" on the ricasso.AGM is officially listed as "unknown" but it may be Alfred Manning.Retains the leather washer,leather grip and a couple inches of the original wire wrap.No wobble in the grip.The top brass branch has a slight inward push.Displays fine.No scabbard.       Very nice officers non dug sword belt buckle with part of the original leather belt still attached.The ribbon in the beak reads "E.Pluribus Unum".Stippled background with the integrally cast wreath with the medium size hook on the reverse.The belt is black bridle leather with stitching that tells us this was a higher grade quality when purchased.The brass belt adjuster is still on the belt.You would think that the officers would have had the applied silver wreath but not so.About 13 1/4 inches of the belt remain.Slight body curve to buckle.Very cool displaying piece.       Very nice model 1860 naval cutlass for the Union Navy.A large quantity of these were produced during the war to last for years to come.We know this is civil war because they quit making this pattern after the war.There wasn't another model of naval cutless till 1917.Full lenth blade.This was manufactured by Ames but the stamp was so light that it has worn off.You can still make out traces of the inspectors initials.Inside of the hand gaurd has rack numbers and letters from being in service.Pommel cap has the initials "DR" for Daniel Reynolds the armory sub- inspectors initials where it was approved for military service.Nice tone to the brass with a salt and pepper blade with more salt than pepper!LOL! SOLD

    O.K.,you hear it all the time but this is truely one of those rare items that would fit the "one of a kind" catagory! A large hunk of lead measuring roughly 12 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide.Recovered by Charles Wiggins in Western Tennessee.I bet this gave a heck of a signal when his detector went over it!Inscribed in the lead is "T.H. Holmes Co. K 5th. Ill. Cav." Pictures don't do the piece justice.You can read the carving easier with the naked eye. Through some research they were able to find him and copy part of his company roster.Framed and with a nice,ornate label it reads:"Holmes,Taylor pvt. 18 years old,5'6" tall,light hair,blue eyes,occupation farmer from Indiana".A truely unique,rare dug item.I can picture him sitting on a log carving this all those years ago.     Crude blacksmith hand forged Spanish colonial iron knife.This was recovered in north central New Mexico.1750-1850 era blade.Nine and a quarter inches overall.A small piece of the very tip is missing.Nice,early knife. SOLD

      Enfield model 1856 .65 caliber carbine with the original ram rod with swivel in very nice condition.Action is tight and crisp.Has the British crown over "VR" {Victoria's Reign} with other British marks.With the success of the model 1853 Enfield a two band carbine for mounted troops was developed.These were used by both sides in the civil war but mostly Southern used due to the shortage of the newer breech loaders.Brass hardware in nice shape.Sling bar and ring in solid condition.Measures 36 1/2 inches overall.Brass and checkered butt so it wouldn't slip against your shoulder.Nice wear there that tells us this one was well used.Very slight,thinner than a hair,crack in the wood above the ring bar.Mentioned for exactness.Original ram rod that will come out of the swivel.The date and markings on the lock plate are mostly obscured.You can still see a bit of the crown and the "E" in "Enfield".Priced accordingly. $995.00 SOLD

A little earlier than the civil war but here is an artifact that witnessed the epic battle.An original,authentic Adobe brick that was part of the Alamo compound during the battle.This item was brought to Ohio University decades ago by a professor from San Antonio who donated it to the history department museum.Years went by and the museum was dissolved.My mother,who was a Secretary at the time,was asked if she wanted the brick and,of coarse,said,"Yes".She has had it in her possession since the early 1980's but now wishes to sell it.It measures roughly 15 to 16 inches long.7 to 8 inches wide.A little over 4 inches thick and very heavy!I would like to thank the Alamo for their help with my questions and thank you to Jim M. across from the Alamo at the History Shop for his knowledge and expertise in Alamo related documents and artifacts.A letter of provinance comes with the brick.More information on the brick will be shared with interested parties.Shipping will be a little extra on this one but I do not charge more than the Post Office total!By the way..."No"..I did not charge Mom a consignment fee!!!     Confederate Haiman sabre cut down to a wicked fighting knife.This weapon measures 24" overall with an 18 1/2" blade.Louis Haiman & Bros. of Columbus,Georgia produced this sabre.Has the tell tale Haiman "smudge" mark at the ricasso as well as the unstopped fuller.Solid blade and solid wooden grip.Very nice brass hand gaurd that has a very slight wiggle but displays great.I know for a fact that this very knife sold four or five years ago for $1400.00.If you're looking for an original Confederate blade without spending several grand then here it is.I was thinking of keeping this one !!       Confederate belt buckle dug by Paul Clippa near Fort Donelson.This buckle has the same hook configuration as the pewter C.S.A.This style buckle was manufactured out of lead and then coated with pewter.The score lines for the hook configuration can still be seen.Many knowledgeable dealers believe this style was made by Noble Brothers,Rome,Georgia.Good,solid,strong condition with the tongue and part of one hook remaining.Slight body curve.Buckle measures roughly 76X50 mm.If the economy wasn't in the crapper this buckle would normally go for five and some change.Priced accordingly at SOLD

      Potts & Hunt Enfield period cut down for cavalry use.Verbal history from the family is this Enfield came from Texas.I can find nothing on this piece that shows me it was a modern day cut down.Well worn carvings in the stock and forstock in an "X" pattern.Ages old brass plate repair behind the hammer that has the wear you want to see.Clear "Potts & Hunt" on the lock plate.Brass butt plate and trigger gaurd are in nice shape.The coolest thing to me about this musket is the field made leather and roller buckle sling swivel!!Ages old leather tacked in to the stock holding the roller buckle in place and it still moves freely.Leather is almost like wood after all these years.Ram rod is present but stuck in the channel.Action is tight and crisp and clicks into both positions.A couple letters carved here and there in the stock.Small piece of wood missing behind the nipple.Measures just shy of 45 inches overall.I wish this one could talk!An Enfield that obviously saw alot of use!       Very cool early Nathen Starr cav sabre period cut down into a Confederate fighting knife.This was proudly displayed in an east Tennessee UCV hall for years.The Starr markings can be plainly seen on the ricasso.The wood grip is in place but a narrow piece is broken off of the underside which can be seen in the pictures.Hand gaurd is very stable with a dark patina.This exact style of cut down sabre is documented in the "Updated Confederate Bowie Knife Guide" by Lee Hadaway.Blade is 12 inches long and the knife overall is 17 1/2 inches.Nice Rebel reconfigured weapon.     5th. model Burnside carbine in very nice condition.No pitting and a nice gray patina to the metal on this carbine.Dark walnut stock is in very good shape with a few service dings that you like to see.Marked "Burnside patent March 25th. 1856".Lockplate is marked as well "Burnside Rifle Co. Providence,RI" but a little worn.Several inspectors marks plus the inspectors cartouche on the left of the stock.Great rifling and the action is tight and crisp.All matching serial numbers.Very nice carbine.     Type 1 model 1840 artillery sabre.This nice unmarked sabre is in great shape.The Ames artillery sabres were stamped so lightly that many times the markings are just worn away. There are no markings that would tell you it's an import either. Identical to the Ames in my collection but priced accordingly without any visible markings. Rack number 10 stamped in the brass and also the drag. No inspectors marks on the pommel but the state contracts were not inspector stamped.Great leather and wire wrap.     Fantastic model 1840 unmarked Artillery sabre believed to belong to Private Edward Hay C.S.A. 2nd. Virginia Artillery who fought at Gettysburg!!Well marked on the pommel cap with an "E" over "H" plus a clear period written "Hay" under the branch of the hilt.Civil war sailors/soldiers records show only one soldier,north or south,with the the markings "EH" or the name "Hay".Very likely by the records that this is indeed his sabre after extensive research and countless hours spent.Beautiful even patina with original leather and wire wrap.Blade is in great shape with a salt and pepper look.Scabbard is in great shape and the sabre fits snug.Here's another bonus.There are four period carved notches in the drag!!Comes with a notebook with information on Hay and the 2nd. Here we have a cool Enfield belt rig that was found in an old barn in Pennsylvania.Bayonet is in nice shape and complete but the locking ring is froze in time.Early style stitched frog.Leather belt pieces vary between soft and harder leather.The great part of this rig is the buckle which was field repaired and modified with an iron spike or heavy nail being driven through where the tounge broke off, then bent over!! You can bet this was no Yankee modification!I would say the "US" was worn upside down by this soldier!!Nice buckle with full lead and the arrow type hooks.This rig would look great in a display case.     Nice grouping of dug relics from the camp of "Wilders Lightning Brigade" in Normandy Tennessee.     Very nice foot officers sword by one of the most sought after makers.Henry Sauerbier of Newark,New Jersey.Sauerbier has more variations of swords than almost any other smaller maker.Here's a fine example .His company was located at 24 Mechanics lane from 1861 to 1865.Floral designs appear in the hand gaurd as well as floral and patriotic etching on the blade itself.The pictures don't do it justice but the blade retains the designs of a "US,Flag,Eagle with shield,E.Pluribus Unum banner" and a beautiful "Sauerbier Maker" etching.The sharkskin grip is in great shape and the pommel cap at a bent down angle is a trait of Sauerbier. Salt and pepper blade with a few small nicks.Retains original leather washer.Blade length is 31 1/4 inches.No scabbard.If you're looking for a rare sword for under a thousand then here it is! SOLD

    Very good condition model 1849 Colt .31 caliber revolver with the four inch barrel.This five shot revolver retains traces of the cylinder scene.All matching serial numbers of 109580,including wedge, give it an 1852 production date.Two piece walnut grips are in good shape.Fully functional with a tight,crisp action.May have been slightly cleaned ages ago but,if so,they didn't go too far.Mentioned for exactness.Very nice 157 year old Colt with a clear New York stamping.I doubt I'll look as good at 157!!     Here is a really cool relic.A .58 caliber Springfield bayonet that was carved into a fishing spear or frog gig! The bayonet was attached to a pole to be utilized.The socket still retains part of the original wooden shaft as dug. This relic appeared in American digger magazine and was dug in one of Shermans camps along the river in Atlanta. Diggers name will be given to the new owner. A really good example of how the soldiers would adapt to their surroundings and utilize the tools they had at their disposal.Boy if this one could talk!! SOLD

    Austrian engineers musket model 1842. This musket has a hard beechwood stock with the correct ramrod. Action is tight and crisp. Massive .71 cal. bore. This three band musket is dated 1849. The 1842 engineers musket was basicly a shorter version of the 42 Austrian musket. These were included in the batch of 23,000 model 42's that were sold to the US ord. dept. by Herman Boker. The original 2 band nose cap was modified to a single band. Missing rear site. Nice looking musket. SOLD

    Confederate "Rope Border" buckle in nice,dug condition. This plate was dug by a well known digger over thirty years ago "ON THE BATTLEFIELD" in Munfordville Kentuckey. A pleasing green patina throughout with a strong letter strike that is more prominant than the picture reveals. Hooks are long gone on the reverse. This buckle was found with a clean break running across the middle of the letter "C" then up but was expertly repaired by Robert Mcdaniel ages ago. The diggers name will be given to the new owner. Every collection needs a buckle with those magic letters "CS". Priced right. SOLD

State of New York buckle that was excavated from the gunboat "USS Southfield". The "Southfield" was sunk by the "CSS Albemarle" near Plymouth,N.C. in 1864. The buckle comes in a nice case with an engraved brass plate identifying location found.Additional information is on the underside of the case. There are three small holes where the hooks were disolved by the salt water but still a really nice buckle with lots of history attached!!! SOLD

    Here's a cool relic. War of 1812 Light cavalry sabre. American version of the English pattern 1796 light cavalry sabre.{dragoon sabre} The American dragoon pattern for the war of 1812 was identical to the English pattern but with the scabbard blackend as in this example. Broad and well curved blade with single, wide fuller. The grip was the stirrup hilt type or as some call it the "reverse-P". Iron scabbard in good,solid condition displaying the expected wear and a couple small dents. "Barn find" condition with a salt and pepper blade with no nicks. The wooden grip is long gone but all the remaining metal is in strong shape. Weapons such as this were often handed down through the family and carried into the war. SOLD

    6# Bormann cannon ball converted to solid shot! This is a cool oddity and you can bet this is no Yankee modifacation. Dug at Shiloh years ago by a local digger in that area. Diggers name will be given to the new owner. Once recovered it was drilled through the fuze and then found to be full of lead. The fuze is long gone but there is still plenty of lead in the ball. You can clearly see the threads of the underplug. If you like the unusual finds then you'll like this. Priced right. SOLD

    Union spur. This spur was dug in Normandy Tn. in the camp of Wilders Lightning Brigade. A piece of the rowel holder was broken off but found with the spur. I'll let re-attaching it or not be up to you. Very rare spur. A couple have been dug in Tn.. US 8 in Crouchs spur book. As of press time there was only one known to date dug in Virginia. If you look at "Phils Photos" you'll see pic's of us hunting this very camp. Neck slightly bent down. SOLD

    Two Ohio Volunteer Militia tokens for the Forty First Regiment dug in Kentuckey by a well known digger. The two are identical but one is damaged. They read: "Sutlers check.41 regt. OVM. 25 cents". Diggers name will be given to the new owner. SOLD

    Large lead cast letter "C". This super cool relic is a bit of a mystery. The soldier would outline the shape of an object, remove the dirt or sand and pour hot lead into the shape. The result would be an item such as this. The designation or use of this item is unknown.We simply call this "soldier art". Found May 30, 2007 in Lagrange, Tennessee. A .58 three ringer shown for scale. SOLD

    French model 1840 rifled musket. This .71 caliber musket bears the makers mark on the stock as well as the lockplate. Has the rack number on the stock as well as an old carving that I can't make out. Probably initials. The 1862 Confederate ordinance manual describes these rifles. Believed to have entered the port of Savanah, Georgia Sept. 16, 1861. 36,000 of these were imported. Designed to shoot the round ball or the minie. Action is very tight and crisp. Dark even tone to the wood and the metal. Cool looking musket at a reasonable price. Sold


LT-0 .

    US buckle on regulation belt. Leather is strong and pliable with the wear you would expect. Light, chocolate patina on the arrow hook buckle with full lead on the reverse. An ages old, clean break in the back of the leather that had a very nice repair. Displays great. SOLD


    FA9.

      Scarce model 1858 Starr double action .36 caliber Navy revolver in good condition. Only 3000 of the these revolvers were produced between 1858 and 1860. This is a good, solid example with a smooth, dark gray tone to 97% plus of the metal. The original, dark walnut grips are solid and display the usual wear you would expect. The state of Ohio purchased 500 Starr Navys during the war and we know the 2nd. Ohio were issued these. Matching serial numbers throughout of 2739. Action is crisp and indexs well in single action. The double action feature is not responding but may with adjustment. It is missing the loading lever catch but that would be an easy fix. I'll leave these decisions up to the new owner. The top of one nipple broke off flush ages ago but the remainders are intact. Frame markings read:"Starr Arms Co. New York". "Starrs Patent Jan. 15 1856". Flaydermans describes this revolver as follows: "The Navy model is the most difficult Starr to acquire due to it's limited production in comparison with the Armys 23,000 produced". If you're wanting a rare revolver for your collection but not wanting to shell out several thousand then here it is. SOLD

      French made diplomatic sword. This sword was dug near a Confederate fort in North Carolina. It retains a beautiful mother of pearl grip on both sides and wonderful gold gilt remaining on the ornate brass knucklebow and guard. This sword was dug still in it's leather scabbard. Remnants of the leather remain along with the brass throat with great, gold gilt there as well. Triangular blade is rusted but amazingly intact from riccaso to tip. Would look great mounted on a light gray piece of barn wood. I hate to see this one go! Very cool piece of history from North Carolina. (Note: Glare from the sun makes the brass appear brighter than it is) SOLD

      Here is a nice, original, complete Burnside carbine dated 1864. Marked "Burnside Rifle Co. Providence RI." on the lock plate. Matching serial numbers of 7239. Has the original flip up rear site and front site. Also retains the saddle bar and ring and rear sling swivel. Has the normal amount of wear and tear to let you know this one was there! Has the initial "GB" or "GA" carved in the stock. Nice complete example.

    Complete 7mm pinfire pistol. Pinfires were the third most widely used pistols of the war. This is a nice example with a salt and pepper tone to the metal. Has a functional fold down trigger and still retains the ejector rod. The checkered wood grips are solid with a couple of minor scuff marks on the underside. The action is tight and crisp and rotates well. Looks like Roman numerals "X" and "II" on the ejector rod. Nice, functional example. I'll throw in a 7mm cartridge as well. SOLD

    Riflemans model 1855 belt rig. This is one of the rarest of all Federal accoutrements. Copied from the French 1847 Chasseur A Pied. Has a frog to accomadate the the sabor bayonet for the 1855 rifled musket. has the brass slides for the model 1853/1855 knapsack. Rendered obsolete by the model 1861 rifle accoutrements but saw extensive early war use. There is an old repair to the inner side of belt that is not visible when displayed. A professional repair would only add value to the rig.

    Model 1851 dragoon saber belt rig. This is an early example made with buff leather in very good condition. Interior of belt is maker marked by William Kinsy & Co. Newark, New Jersey. Complete with original sword drops. Has a beautiful 1851 sword belt plate with applied silver wreath. SOLD
